{"id":732,"date":"2024-06-27T10:22:47","date_gmt":"2024-06-27T01:22:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/igcore.thers.ac.jp\/en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=732"},"modified":"2024-06-27T10:22:47","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T01:22:47","slug":"732-2","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/igcore.thers.ac.jp\/en\/news\/732-2.html","title":{"rendered":"Professor Yasuhiro Kizuka has published their research results in Journal of Biological Chemistry."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>Researchers have uncovered how a structure in bodily carbohydrates (sugar chains or <\/span>\u201c<span>glycans<\/span>\u201d<span>) that regulates how they attach themselves to other molecules interacts with key enzymes, and in so doing can contribute to a range of diseases.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span>One of the most essential bodily biochemical processes involves carbohydrates (sugan chains or <\/span>\u201c<span>glycans<\/span>\u201d<span>) attaching themselves to proteins and fats (lipids), and when this process malfunctions, the risk of contracting a raft of diseases sharply increases.
