It gives us great pleasure to share the news that Associate Prof. Kazuma Sakamoto in the Department of Biochemistry, Graduate School of Medicine, Nagoya University, and a member of iGCORE (Kadomatsu group) has received the 2020 JSCR Incentive Award. This award, conferred to young researchers (under the age of 40 or within 10 years after obtaining a Ph.D. degree), recognizes the outstanding research achievements in the field of Glycoscience. 3 recipients were selected for this honor this year.

The award proudly acknowledged Dr. Sakamoto’s research work on "Inhibition of axonal regeneration by glycans". This study clarified the mechanism by which chondroitin sulfate (an acidic glycan) inhibits axon regeneration (Fig. 1). We are hopeful that his study will contribute to the elucidation of etiology of various neurological diseases in the future.
